This very attractive Louis XV style lady's desk is a "bureau dos d'âne" (donkey's back desk). Decorated with inlays of different types of wood decorated with flowers and leaves, this elegant desk is embellished with finely chased gilded bronzes on its uprights and curved legs. The top features 2 drawers surmounted by shelves set in openwork gilded brass brackets, separated by a niche with a bevelled mirror. The front opens to reveal 3 identical small drawers, a writing tablet covered with green felt and a secret compartment with gilded brass tab. A few signs of age have not altered its elegance, and it is sure to catch the eye wherever you place it.

More Information

Style: Louis XV

Louis XV, known as the "Beloved" reigned over the kingdom of France from 1715 to 1774, he was the only king of France to be born and die at the Palace of Versailles.

The Louis XV style is characterized by its elegance and lightness. It is recognizable by the grace of the curved legs of the furniture with "pied de biche"(deer foot).

The wood is natural, gilded or painted. The "rococo" style ornamentation is inspired by nature and exoticism.
